Shade of the day: Solanum Africanum ‘Nightshade’

These are Solanum Africanum, commonly known as the nightshade plant. It’s a annual to short-lived perennial vine.

What I found out is that the whole entire plant can be used in China tea to treat cervical cancer. Yet when the flowers are purple (as images above) the whole plant is poisonous, 20171113_154512

also their fruit is immature (green) they are extremely poisonous and can cause children death. The fruit when it’s mature (black) is even poisonous. However if the flowers are white, lucky you! Just check your native breed in case, if still safe to use, its edible by making jams out of the berries. So check which native breed you have before digesting it.
