Scouting around the garden in the late evening with the misty cool breeze that hurried over from the sea, blowing between my fingers…strolled around the corner of my raised beds to find some ripe gem squashes and ready to be cut off the vine with my knife which I had grabbed from the kitchen along the way. Yeeek! At that moment I was super excited to present my family what I had for them, carrying it in a kangaroo pouch which I had made from my jersey which I was wearing.
Took it to the house from the garden to store and show them. Nothing less rewarding than grown and maintained by yourself and its ready to be used! So I had my first gem squash harvest today, I knew they were ready or ripe when the outer skin was hard enough that my fingernail didn’t pierce its skin.
